Graduation

Friday night Q4 had her end of school "graduation"

I sat the first row back after the "graduates" ... so I had a great view of them, and took lots of pictures to entertain the 4-year-old set while we were waiting for it to start:

C5 was bored, and was drawing:

Finally! the program started. I got a photo of them lining up, with wonderful evil eyes:

And then -- my battery died. I hadn't checked it for ages. So, no videos of Q4 singing I am a promise. You'll have to hear it in person when we see you.

Q sleeping

She asked me to photograph her after she fell asleep. Then she promptly called me and said, "I'm asleep!"

See the door there in the photo? I hit her with the door.

Puddleglum

We are reading the Narnia series to C5 at bedtime these days, which is just lovely. The books are engaging and interesting and actually raise a lot of questions. And I can say for certainty who dies and who lives and that everything turns out OK in the end.

We are up to The Silver Chair. I always like this one. Of course, I can say that about all of them.

So, when we started the book C40 told me he had to read chapter 5 to C5. OK, fine. Two nights ago when we were on chapter 3 C40 reminded me not to read chapter 5. OK, but now I was starting to wonder.

Chapter 5 is where Puddleglum the marsh-wiggle is introduced. C40's favorite character in the whole series. Because, as I think, C40 IS Puddleglum.

I wasn't sure how C5 would take to the character. Apparently, she thinks he is hilarious. Just like C40.

Field Day

I deserve a medal. A big honking trophy, even.

The first problem was the weather. Hot, crazy, sunny. By the time they walked from the school to the park all the kids were hot and thirsty. I drove down and I was hot and thirsty. I had brought extra waster for all of them, and they dove into it. We missed the instructions on how to do the whole thing.

The gist of it is this: We had eleven stations (including a water/bathroom break) to visit ... a ball & raquet thing, a sack race, an egg & spoon (we skipped this, because really, our class is full of hellions who are not civilized, and we decided that eggs + A was NOT a good mix) a soccer relay, a frisbee/hula hoop thingy which we never figured out, a water/sponge race, football relay, a tire race, ... and some more. I think we might have skipped a few.

One problem was that there should have been an adult at each station to explain the race and help maintain order. But there wasn't, because of testing at the school. So the teacher (or, in our case, the sub) had to read the instruction to figure out how to play the game.

Yellow and blue teams

The other problem was the children. They are an exuberant bunch to begin with, and they had a sub, because their regular teacher was out because the doctor said she had to stay out of the sun. That, and a couple of the children are ...difficult. A6 was wailing on everybody. P6 was ... defying every direction. More water made things a little better. C5 was moping because the games all had balls (boyish) and it was hot.

C5 crying because there was no shade

After the first 6 stations we had a water break.
Water break

Then two children from C5's classroom were removed from field day and brought BACK to the elementary school, which did make things easier. With A & P gone, there was less hitting (OMG, the one child was BAD) and more following of directions (that child just makes life difficult when you are trying to keep track of everyone). Phew. After they left things did get easier. Then we could get down to playing. PLUS we had the helpers!

But. We were hanging out, trying to keep them under control, keep them in the shade. There was an awful lot of whining from ALL the children about how hot it was, how thirsty they were, and how hungry they were. It WAS hot. Lunch was later than their usual lunch time, but we couldn't eat early because the hot-lunch kids' lunches hadn't been delivered. We had already drunk a ton. Finally, lunch!

Lunch

After lunch, more play on the playground, then I took C5 & M6 home.

PS, I won the sack race.

She has her priorities straight.

You can watch this just for the chocolate sprinkles experience. That and MY DOUBLE CHIN! I might not be a beauty but that isn't how I picture myself. Yuck.
****Revision ... the licking of the fingers and the double chin somehow got cut out, must re-upload****

As you know

Q4 loves to sing.
She sang this to me today: "Hey little mama, I can transform ya!"

I had to look it up. Turns out it is a Chris Brown song. The next line (which she DOESN'T know) goes "No, I can't dance, but I can dance on ya"

And so forth.

Thanks to Q4's friend, J, who taught it to her.

Trip to Clark's Farm

I had Q4 & K4 to take care of, so we all sat together on the bus. The front seat, thank you girls, for being so thoughtful!
On the Bus

We went on a hayride

I caught pictures of every other child feeding and petting the animals ... but whenever I tried to capture Q4's image somebody stepped in the way. But here she is NEAR the horse:
Q4 and the horse

The place also had all these fantastic creations of nursery rhymes ... Q4 told me this was the house of the three bears. I am not sure why it has a pipe for a chimney, a bag on the roof, and what looks to be a baby bottle on the entryway.

And we spent a ton of time at this giant shoe:

Photos from the big night

So, most are of Q4
Q4 & K3

Q4 cute

Q4 smirk

But C5 took a photo of me and C40 while waiting for the show to start
E39 & C40

And I took one of C5 while we were outside. I had to remove her from the show because I'd told her to stay sitting down and be polite or she wouldn't have to have any treats that people had brought. And then C5 got up and tried to get in the photos / videos. I actually think it started with her REALLY just wanting to say hi to Q4 up on the stage then it became fun and crazy and that is when I removed her and told her she couldn't have dessert.
C5 mad at me

Q4 had a show um ... over a week ago. I've been busy. So, I'm only getting to posting now. That, plus carpal tunnel. Still got that, too.

The show was hysterical.

Enjoy. First installment coming up.
